Get It On It:

A Personal Letter from the Director

By: Jared Sloan | Director, Fatherhood Initiative

April 15, 2025

Have you ever desired to experience more of God?

Henry Blackaby’s Experiencing God bible study shares a powerful idea: if you want to encounter God, look for where He’s already at work, then join Him there. So often, we assume transformation starts with launching something new. But more often, it starts by recognizing the invitation already in front of us.

Fatherhood Initiative is one of those invitations.

Right now, something sacred is happening through this work, and I want to invite you, heart to heart, to get in on it.

First, a word of gratitude. What we’re seeing today is not sudden, it’s the visible harvest of seeds sown over a decade ago, when David Cozart and Eric Geary first launched this mission. Their vision, lifted in prayer and sustained by countless champions, laid the foundation for all that’s happening now.

Like a rocket burning most of its fuel just to escape the atmosphere, the past ten years have been the powerful propulsion we needed. And now, because of that faithful lift, we’re really feeling the acceleration.

Here’s a glimpse what God did through Fatherhood Initiative in the first three months of 2025:

  • Twelve sessions of Fatherhood Essentials were completed, averaging eight fathers each.

  • We engaged 16 incarcerated fathers at the Fayette County Detention Center (FCDC) through conflict resolution workshops, preparing them to rebuild relationships when they return home.

  • Eight amazing volunteers are leading War Rooms: spaces for honest conversation over wings and pizza, where 8–10 fathers at a time explore servant leadership through a biblical lens.

  • Through All Pro Dad at Booker T. Washington Elementary, we served 50 fathers over three sessions. One teacher said they had never seen most of those men in the school before.

  • At Revive Lifehouse, we completed 11 weeks of Fatherhood Essentials with 16 men per session.

  • We launched a new partnership with Level Up, where 34 recovering fathers are using our community center, meeting with mentors and set healthy goals.

  • In partnership with MAP Foundation, we continue to walk with two UK Football players who are both father-student-athletes.

  • We launched Getting Ready for Home inside FCDC, where staff and volunteers are walking alongside 21 fathers, equipping them to return to their families with healing and purpose.

So, do you want to experience more of God? I want to invite you to get in on it.

I’m looking for men who are willing to show up, consistently, relationally, and humbly. The men we serve don’t need experts. They need friends. They need presence. If you feel stirred to get involved, whether at our Center for Fathers and Families, in recovery spaces, or inside FCDC, I’d love to talk. (Seriously, text me and let’s go!!! (859-237-8679)

In the meantime, I’ll close with this.

Will you pray for three fathers?

One opened the Bible for the first time and is now attending bible study with a volunteer.

Two just started attending church for the first time.

Seeds have been planted. They continue to be planted. Join God in transforming Lexington, one father at a time.
